A love for nature is at the heart of the Colibri company. They express it through responsible food production and consumption. Our goal was to translate that very passion into their physical space.

Live in each season as it passes; breathe the air, drink the drink, taste the fruit, and resign yourself to the influence of the earth.

—Henry David Thoreau
A key characteristic of a natural habitat is one that exudes comfort, safety, and ease. These qualities inspire creatures to return to their familiar spaces time and time again.

For humans, we believe that this feeling of comfort can be produced through a balanced use of warm and textured materials juxtaposed against lush, verdant foliage. We took advantage of the long and narrow plan to create a sinuous bar of red bricks—a raw and timeless material that creates immediate warmth. We paired this gesture with a terracotta tile floor. These elemental selections help blur the boundary between inside and outside, giving the visitor a sensation of nature right upon entry.

We selected a peach hue for the walls and ceiling, both areas applied with texture that evokes human touch and craft. To complete the impression of rosiness—and to honour the hummingbird, the restaurant’s namesake—we applied an iridescent gold film on all of the windows. While passersby get diverted by this curious reflective facade, there is an unforgettable aura of peachiness within created as sunlight cascades into the space.
